The Jefferson 500 has been held at Summit Point in WV for a long time. I went to my first one in 1994, think. The great Brian Redmond is the Grand Marshall for the event. (No that is not me standing next to him.)

What I like most about this event is the casual atmosphere. The paddock area is totally open and accessible. All the racers are mellow and eager to chat about their rides. This year the featured marque was Triumph and as you all know I am a huge Triumph fan so I had to go.

I saw a ton of cool stuff and came to the realization that vintage racing is The Way and The Light.

Now for some annotated car porn...

Let’s start with the Chevrons and my man Alan Friedman.

That is Alan Friedman. He started club racing in the 70’s 911s and such.

This is his Chevron B21 racer.

Ford Cosworth “BD” series engine.

His buddies Chevron B16. Sexiest car at the event to me. More Ford Cosworth power. These two cars were nuts on the track.

GT-6 race cars are killer.

This is an early one with the old school tail lights.

A few late model versions.

Bob Tullis’ Group 44 and Kas Kastner’s (who was a guest of honor and in attendance) historic GT-6 racers.

I first saw this car back at a Roadster Factory event 20+ years ago, the thing is a BEAST.

D Prepared National Champ in 1976 and still getting it in. It’s one thing to have a vintage car, but one with a pedigree (or at least a good log book) is a bonus.

Take Michael’s terribly rare Elva racer on the left. Not that the Formula Junior is anything to sneeze at by any means.

This guys cars were CLEAN.

ALL Ginetta, ALL the time.

Ginetta G4. Small. Sexy. Absolutely brutal on the track

The other Ginetta G4 racing on the weekend and a Lotus Formula car. I don’t have any pics of the Lotus, for reasons I will explain later.

This...THIS. Man. The Ginetta G12. If my ship comes in...this is it. Lotus powerplant.

Obligatory Tr-3 pic. Done to TR-3B spec with the toyota transmission upgrade. I consider this the last car that said to hell with safety. The designer made the car expressly so, “the driver could reach out and touch the ground while in the seat.” Yeah...no. A blast to drive though.

Obligatory Midget picture. I don’t think the Sprite/Midget racer gets its due around here. The Miata is really the Midget reborn, from a club racer standpoint. The “A” series engine is a classic.

The Elva Couriers were out in force. Always liked them. The motorcycle you say?

The Royal Enfield was nice. The headlamp assembly needed some work though.

A brace of pre-1970 Spitfire racers. Small journal 1296cc engines are the order of the day. They can rev to 8,500rpm+ easy.

I love Spitfires but Heralds just make me all giggly. The prep work this guy put in is amazing. He is worth his own post.

Devin Special. Love the black wire wheels. Triple Weber V-8. The car was done for the weekend. Was involved in an on track altercation. You all know the Gentleman’s Rule. If you crash someone you are done for the remainder of the event.

Alfa Duetto. Not a lot of Italian cars at the event.

This GTV was very tidy however.

The Alfa fans will appreciate this remote shifter mod.

The Giulia TI. The Italian version of the BMW 2002tii, IMHO.

And what is a vintage race without an 2002tii?

Zappa racing brought two INSANE cars.

A GT-40 and a TVR Tuscan.

The Tuscan was terribly well detailed. In fact, what impressed me most was how CLEAN most of the racers were. Show quality AND race ready.

GT-40..such an intimidating car.

They were just lying around the paddock.

Datsun’s make nice vintage racers.

The 240zs were SWEET.

This 510 was totally over the top.

Another nice one.

The only Opel GT in attendance, but like everything else there, it was in great condition.

Can’t talk vintage British without the Big Healeys. These things are crazy. I cannot imagine driving one at race speeds. The guys racing these things back in the day were certifiable. A personal fave.

OG Minis were of course out for the weekend.

Nice pre-67 Spitfire. You can tell by the door handle.

Well, that is enough car porn for now. I may do another post if people want. The rest of the pics will end up on Motorhead’s FB page most likely.

Quite a few of those cars make it up to the Glen such as the Zagato I got to snap about to go on track, that glorious black/ gold Ford GT, as well as the Gulf liveried twins...Holy smokes the dude with the blue Datsun got it fixed!!

He broke something last outing I’m glad it looks as nice as ever.
